Bafana Bafana appoints a new coach ahead of the Zimbabwe game. South Africa has named Belgian Hugo Broos as their new coach ahead of the Qatar World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign which begins with a date against Zimbabwe next month.

Broos, who won the 2017 AFCON title with Cameroon, was officially unveiled during a special Zoom conference hosted by the South Africa Football Association this afternoon.

The announcement ended weeks of speculation after several names, including Benni McCarthy, ex-Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz and Pitso Mosimane were thrown into the fray.

The 69-year-old Belgian will replace Molefi Ntseki, who was sacked recently after Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the reschedule 2021 AFCON finals set to be hosted by Cameroon early next year.

Ntseki, however, is expected to remain in the structures. South Africa will face Zimbabwe in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on June 6.

Broos has over three decades of coaching experience, mainly at the club level in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

Apart from winning several silverware with clubs in Belgium, his major coaching highlight was winning the AFCON title with Cameroon four years ago. The Bafana Bafana appointment is his second national team job.

Congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalie Itumeleng Khune and his wife Siphelele – the couple has just welcomed their second born. “Best feeling Ever, GOD always has a better plan than we do. Proud DAD for the 2nd time” shared an excited Khune.

Back in April, it was reported that the couple had a bun in the oven and had already revealed the baby’s gender to close family members and friends. In May, Sphelele did confirm that they were expecting a new addition to their family. “As we wait for our new addition to the Family.”

Another couple to welcome a newborn baby is Skeem Saam’s Pebetsi Matlaila and her husband. The actress has been teasing snaps of her baby girl through her Instagram stories. She, however, revealed that her pregnancy was not the smoothest as it almost claimed her life.

“I don’t know yet, how I survived, I’m told most women with pre-eclampsia don’t. I cannot wrap my head around it yet or comprehend what happened. I am told we were brought back from death and shocked Dr One day I will share the story. I don’t know why God chose us. For now, I appreciate health, and deeply grateful for life.” Shared the new mom on one of her stories.

Fans should be delighted to see Itumeleng Khune wear a smile on his face. 2021 has been a tough year for the skipper. He has lost his sister in a fire. She was found dead at her grandmother’s house in her room in Tshing, Extension 2, North West.

Vensterdorp Police spokeswoman, Colonel Adele Myburgh, said that an investigation into the incident was opened. “At 5 am on Thursday we received a call about a lot of smoke coming from a backroom in Tshing. The police broke down the door and found a 27-year-old burnt inside the room. Unfortunately, the lady died.”

In March, a source close to the family believes Khune’s sister was a victim of a home invasion as it was only her room that burnt down. “It is not the main house that was burnt down, but an outdoor room where Mapula was sleeping. The incident happened at their grandmother’s house in Venterdorp in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

“Everyone was there when the incident happened. They called the police around 4 am when they realised the room was on fire. When the police arrived, she was burned beyond recognition. The family is now waiting for the postmortem,” revealed the source.

Mamelodi Sundowns Sue Pitso Mosimane’s Wife For R8 Million

The gloves are off between Pitso Mosimane’s wife and agent, Moira Tlhagale of Tlhagale Sports Marketing and Management.

The 11 times PSL champions are demanding Tlhagale to pay back about R8 million in agents commission, which is linked to Mosimane’s R1,5m monthly salary, which he was paid in his new contract that was prematurely terminated, according to a national Sunday tabloid newspaper, Sunday World.

It is reported that Sundowns have already filed papers with the Johannesburg High Court, in which the club’s lawyers, Bowman Gilfillan, in their submission, said the club “had signed a head coach agreement” in which Sundowns agreed with Mosimane on a four year starting 1 June 2020 to 31 May 2024.”

They said the club paid Tlhagale’s company R8 632, 260, which was a 10% commission for securing Mosimane’s signature to the club.

Sundowns lawyers said the club paid the money upfront instead of dividing and paying out for every season that Mosimane completed as an employee of the club.

Sundowns agreed to pay Mosimane a salary of R1 5500 a month, according to Sunday World.

The club accuses Mosimane of having terminated his contract on 30 September 2020 after coaching the team for only months of the 48-month contract,” the Sunday tabloid reported.

SunSport contacted Sundowns on Sunday who were due to confirm or deny the report, while Tlhagale’s company was unavailable for comment.

The big reveal of the Mosimane-Sundowns war came to light a week ago when Mosimane lambasted a fraction of officials from his former employers for having harassed him with emails and messages after he quit the club.

This was after the club’s supporters attacked Al Ahly bus where Mosimane was aboard and the fans hurled insults at the their former head coach, going as far as swearing at his mother.

Tlhagale’s company then followed up Mosimane’s post match conference with a statement that revealed that the club cannot accept that Mosimane has left them for greener pastures.

In their statement after Sundowns accepted Al Ahly’s apology to the club for the way in which their fans behaved when they lost 3-1 on aggregate in their African Champions League quarter-final, Tlhagale’s company said they were “disappointed that Sundowns has not apologised to him (Pitso) personally, but issued a general statement apologising to Al Ahly ‘and those associated with the team'”.

“We trust and believe that this matter and the necessary truths that need to be revealed will finally come to the fore in due course. As MT Sports Marketing and Management, our stance is that we will not allow for such callous bullying of our client.”

Mosimane this weekend just won the African Super Cup with Al Ahly, which President Cyril Ramaphosa congratulated him on Saturday.

Gavin Hunt Fired As Kaizer Chiefs Coach

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the termination of the contract of head coach Gavin Hunt with immediate effect.

Assistant coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillion Sheppard will take charge of the team in the interim.

It’s been a difficult season for the coach, who was appointed to the role in September 2020, as a replacement for Ernst Middendorp.

The Glamour Boys are currently 11th in the DStv Premiership, having lost 10 of their 28 games so far this season.

They’ve also won just six games.

They are, however, through to their first CAF Champions League semifinal in their maiden campaign and will take on Wydad Casablanca in the last four.

Amakhosi said that an announcement about Hunt’s replacement would be made in due course.

Hunt took over a side who finished second in the Absa Premiership the season before but struggled to mount a title challenge in the current campaign after failing to strengthen the side after being handed a transfer ban by football governing body, Fifa.

In May, the club’s supporters also showed their frustration with the way things were being run at the club as they protested at the club’s training base in Naturena.

One of the participants at the protest was Phillix Kokwele, who spoke to Eyewitness News about the direction that the club was taking.

“As Kaizer Chiefs supporters, we are not happy with the direction the club is taking or has taken in the past 6/7 years,” he said. “For a club like Kaizer Chiefs, as you can see now, just fighting for crumbs at the bottom of the league, is actually unheard of. We are not satisfied with that and we feel we have to stand up and engage with management and to change a lot of things we feel need to be changed,” Kowele said.
